It's that time of year again!
The beginning of the school year is similar to the new year. It's fresh starts and new goals of being on time for pick up and getting the family back into our "school night" routines.
If you already have your family schedules down to a science... there's nothing to see here (keep on keeping on 😅). However, if you are like the millions of us who have a collection of unused planners and desk full of random sticky notes- read on, my friend!
Designing daily routines for kids can be a game-changer for both parents and children. Here are some benefits of creating and following a daily routine:
- Routines can lead to increased independence, responsibility, and productivity.
- By following a particular order, kids learn to do things on their own. For example, having a morning routine helps them wake up, brush their teeth, get dressed, and have breakfast independently.
- Routines also promote executive functioning skills by helping children plan their time more effectively. This allows them to stay focused and organized, and prioritize their tasks better.
- To get started, consider creating a daily tracker. This tool can support children in developing a sense of responsibility by providing them with a clear understanding of what needs to be accomplished each day. By checking off completed items, they can also experience a sense of accomplishment and build self-confidence.
- Creating routines for children also helps parents maintain their sanity by providing structure and predictability for the family. This makes completing day-to-day tasks less stressful and leaves more time and energy for fun activities like reading together or having family game night.
Remember, routines don't have to be rigid or inflexible. They can be adjusted and adapted as needed to accommodate changing schedules or priorities. The important thing is to establish a routine that works for your family and stick with it as much as possible.
